In many high-production industrial plants, maintaining the correct hydraulic fluid cleanliness level is essential to ensure operational continuity, component reliability, and reduced maintenance costs.
For a major application in the steel industry, CAMI was tasked with developing a dedicated microfiltration system for an existing hydraulic power unit, with the aim of improving fluid quality and protecting the most sensitive components of the circuit.
The Solution Developed by CAMI
The solution consists of a standalone microfiltration unit installed on a dedicated steel skid, designed to operate continuously and independently from the main hydraulic power unit.
The unit is equipped with a SEIM three-screw pump driven by a high-efficiency 5.5 kW electric motor, a configuration particularly suited to ensuring constant flow, low pulsation levels, and long-term reliability.
At the heart of the system is a HYDAC in-line filter with a filtration rating of 5 microns, specifically sized to effectively remove contaminating particles from the oil and help maintain optimal fluid conditions.
Integrated Monitoring and Diagnostics
To ensure continuous monitoring of system performance, the unit incorporates dedicated devices for supervising operating conditions.
The differential clogging indicator provides real-time information on the condition of the filter element, while the electronic pressure switch with a 4–20 mA analog output enables integration with plant monitoring and maintenance systems.
The electrical control panel, designed and manufactured by CAMI, includes start-stop functions, emergency stop, power-on indication, and alarm management associated with operating conditions and filter status.
Benefits of Continuous Microfiltration
The adoption of a dedicated microfiltration station makes it possible to maintain high hydraulic fluid cleanliness standards, reducing component wear and minimizing the risk of failures caused by particulate contamination.
Key benefits include:
- Increased hydraulic power unit reliability;
- Protection of pumps, valves, and precision components;
- Reduced downtime caused by contamination-related issues;
- Optimized maintenance activities;
- Extended service life of both the hydraulic oil and circuit components.
